Keep your Island going

Set up Apple Shortcuts to request fresh Notchi sessions throughout the day. Create the shortcut once, test it, then choose when it runs.

Before you start

Install Notchi on your iPhone, choose and save your Island layout, and start a session in the app. In Settings → Apps → Notchi, allow Live Activities. Your saved companions and settings are reused when you restart.

A session can remain active for up to eight hours. Each restart begins a new session; it does not extend one session indefinitely. iOS controls when automations run and can delay or stop them.

1. Add the restart action

  1. Open Shortcuts on your iPhone. Tap + to create a shortcut.
  2. Search the actions for Notchi, then add Restart Island session. It may appear as Restart Island in the app shortcuts list.
  3. Name your shortcut Restart Notchi, then save it.

That button copies the action’s name for searching; it does not install a shortcut. You can also open a new shortcut on your iPhone.

2. Test it once

With your iPhone unlocked, tap your new Restart Notchi shortcut. Allow any confirmation iOS presents. Check that your saved layout returns to Dynamic Island or the Lock Screen.

If it says to choose content first, open Notchi and save a layout. If Live Activities are disabled, enable them in iPhone Settings. Start Island session is another included action that opens Notchi to start your saved setup.

3. Choose a daily restart time

  1. In Shortcuts, open Automation and tap + or New Automation.
  2. Select Time of Day, choose a time, and set it to repeat Daily.
  3. Select Run Immediately where available. On versions that show Ask Before Running, turn that off if you want it to run without a confirmation.
  4. Choose your Restart Notchi shortcut. If the editor opens a blank automation, add Run Shortcut and select Restart Notchi.
  5. Save the automation. Create a separate daily automation for each additional time you want.

An example schedule

For requests every six hours, create four daily automations at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00, using your iPhone’s local time. Choose times that suit your day. These are restart requests, not a guarantee of continuous visibility.

Let the next scheduled time arrive and check the result before relying on your schedule. You do not need a shortcut that stays running with a long Wait or Repeat loop.

If your Island still stops

  • Run Restart Notchi manually with your phone unlocked to check the saved layout and Live Activity permission.
  • Open the automation and confirm its time, Daily repeat, run setting, and selected shortcut.
  • After reinstalling or updating Notchi, open the app once. If the action is missing, search Notchi again and re-add it.
  • iOS may require you to unlock your phone or confirm an action. If an automation is missed, open Notchi to start another session.
